Jack Welch spoke at the MIT Sloan School of Management in 2006. During the Q&A he was asked, “How do you feel companies should use, engage management consultants?”
Welch: “Rarely. If you think you’re going down the drain with no hope, bring one in, I guess. Other than that I wouldn’t go look for them.
For you all who are going there, congratulations! Make a lot of money. Get out in about three years. Then go do a real job.
It’s a great place to go to learn. And then to land something and you get a higher entry point. So I congratulate you for pulling it off. But recognize it’s a little bit of a sham. Do it and then get on with your career.”
